Black Organizations

Afrikan Student Union is the Umbrella organization for all of the Black organizations and clubs on the campus of UC Irvine.   Please take a look a these descriptions, to see how African American students are able to be active in the community.          

100 Black Men

A social support organization for black men used to increase the retention of black men and increase the social bond between our fellow brothers.   This organization also serves as a mentoring group for young African American males.

100 Black Women

A social support system for African American women to discuss issues which affect the community.   This organization allows African American women to share their opinions and feelings about personal experiences while attempting to find ways to improve the experience of other African American women in general.

Minority Association for Pre-Health Students (MAPS)

MAPS is the pre-health organization geared towards assisting undergrads in their quest to enter the medical field. A nationally recognized organization with chapters at many universities and college campuses.   MAPS goal is to provide members with the necessary tools to accomplish success. 

Meetings:  Every other Tuesday at 5pm

Nigerian Student Association (NSA)

NSA is a group that encourages the awareness of the Nigerian heritage, culture and history.   Programs include African Culture Night, discussions, movie nights, and other gatherings which highlight the Nigerian culture.   It is not exclusive and it is open to anyone who wants to learn about Nigeria and other African Countries.

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) ( Website )

NSBE's mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who exceed academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.   NSBE also helps students to get involved with internships and programs which are intended to provide students with opportunities after college.  For more information please visit: www.NSBE.org

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated ( Website )

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated

Founded on January 5, 1911 on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.  The purpose of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated is to encourage honorable achievement in every field of human endeavor.
