WHO WE ARE

The UC Irvine cycling club was established in 1976 and is composed of males, females, undergrads, grads, faculty, staff, alumni and family affiliates. The purpose of Anteater Cycling is to support recreational and competitive cycling in the UCI campus community. We participate in mainly road and mountain bike rides and races, but we also support disciplines such as track and cyclocross. We are a part of the Western Collegiate Cycling Conference as well as the National Collegiate Cycling Association.

MEETINGS

Club meetings are currently being planned. Check Events and the Listserve for more information.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

UC Irvine Cycling would love to give your business or organization some advertising space on our jersey in exchange for a donation to our team or a discount on your product.  We welcome alumni or personal donations as well. These donations will help provide team equipment, offset the costs of competition and travel on a student budget and allows UCI Cycling to put on annual events. Please contact us for details.

UC IRVINE CYCLING CLOTHING

UC Irvine Cycling makes it's custom kit available to the general public when quantities are available. We also order additional items from our supplier in the Spring and Fall.  Please contact our clothing officer Tracy Kubas at tkubas@uci.edu to arrange to purchase items or to be placed on a contact list to be informed when items are available.

POLICIES

Race Reimbursement

If you would like to be reimbursed for a race, you must do two things:  First, you must get your name and student ID number placed on the race itinerary by the Thursday before the race weekend by emailing the chair (see below) of the discipline (mtn or road)  in which you are competing.  Second, you must fill out a race receipt form after the race and turn it in to either an officer at a meeting or to the director of club sports.  You should attach a receipt or check stub verifying the amount spent to the form.  Make sure not to leave any fields on the form blank...even if you don't known or couldn't get it correctly signed, fill it in to the best of your ability.

Racing Licenses

Some form of USA Cycling racing license is required for all sanctioned NCCA racing for insurance purposes.  We reimburse racers for annual collegiate licenses (currently $30). This license is good for both mtn and road collegiate races, but not non-collegiate (NORBA, USCF) racing.  Annual licenses are reimbursed by filling out a race receipt and turning it in to an officer at a meeting or to the director of club sports. If you do not purchase an annual license, a 'One-Day' license will have to be purchased at each race (currently $10), which can be reimbursed through the regular race reimbursement process, but if you do more then three races each year, it is in everyone's best interest to purchase an annual license.

Additional Reimbursements

We would like to support UC Irvine racers by reimbursing for race travel expenses and independent race fees.  However, this reimbursement is conditional on available funding. All reimbursement of this form will occur toward the end of each academic quarter.  Please collect all your reimbursement documents (receipts, etc.) and you will be compensated to the level possible with the club race budget.

In order to be reimbursed for race fees for races done independent of the cycling team but representing UC Irvine cycling, the Independent Travel form of the travel itinerary must be completed and filed with the Cycling Team president and the Director of Club Sports before the event.  This can be done either electronically via email or in hard copy.  After the event, a completed copy of the Race Receipt form must be submitted with documentation from the race indicating cost in a timely fashion (before the end of the quarter) to the club treasurer, preferably at a team meeting.

Equipment and Storage

One of the first questions we get from incoming students every year is how they can store their bikes.  The cycling team is allowed limited storage space in the ARC for team equipment but has limited accessibility and is not suitable for a personal bike .  The best solution is to keep your rig in your room.  The following is some advice from team members who have gone through this:

I stayed in the dorms last year. I kept both my road and mountain bike in the room in addition to my roommate's road bike. It definitely can be done. I took a quick look at the policies (undergraduate housing general policies) and they only basically say that bicycles cannot be stored in the public areas of the dorms, but it does not say they cannot be stored in a room. In fact, when we left for winter break, the housing office even suggested that those with bicycles should store them in their room over the break to prevent theft. My friend Drew from the team was an RA (resident advisor) and he kept both of his bikes in his room as well.  As long as one doesn't cause any damage with her bikes, no one will say anything - the main person who would is the RA, and from my experience they have far worse things to worry about than cyclists having their bikes inside. My advice is to try and bunk beds if possible. Once my roommate and I bunked our beds, we had significantly increased storage. Good luck!

Matt Purvis - Summer, 2005

I actually kept my bike in my dorm last year. It was fairly easy and as far as I know it was not against the rules. I bought the Performance Off the Wall II Rack and set it up behind my bed. Although the bike hung over my bed (restricted a little head room) I had no problem with it. We did far worse things in the room then have a bike in there!
