Who We Are

The Philosophy Club is an organization that encourages philosophy majors and non-philosophy majors alike to examine, discuss and do philosophy in a fun and supportive environment.

Our Mission

Philosophy is not only important to the academic community, but to the world community as well. The beliefs that we hold and the actions that we do in everyday life have profound, philosophical implications. This applies whether we are doing essays for class or debating with our friends. The Philosophy Club seeks to forge connections between philosophy as an academic interest and the role of philosophy in the world beyond the university. These connections will allow members to gain a more comprehensive view of philosophy. (See diagram below.)

Mission of the Philosophy Club

When We Meet

General meetings will usually be held every two weeks. However, meetings will also be scheduled according to the availability of club members.

How You Can Benefit

Academic Support: By joining the Philosophy Club, you will be part of a group of people that values academic excellence in the field of philosophy. This will be made possible through the publication of an undergraduate Philosophy journal (click on the "Journal" link at the top of this page for details). Furthermore, support will be provided for members who wish to take advantage of resources (e.g. faculty, literature, etc.) that will assist them in their philosophical studies.

A
Better Understanding: The activities of the Philosophy Club will consist mainly of informal discussions, debates, lectures and readings in philosophy.  However, room will also be made for unconventional activities. Since philosophy is such a broad subject, it is possible to hold philosophical activities at the courthouse or at the beach. Believe it or not, philosophy can be fun and intellectually stimulating at the same time.
