The recruiter is looking for individuals with personalities that match the atmosphere in their company. They will be interested in your goals and ambitions, your communication skills, leadership skills and people skills, and your poise and confidence What should YOU be looking for? One of your goals is to learn about the potential employers. You should try to learn about: ? The type(s) of work you will be doing ? The type(s) of clients you will be working with ? The personality of the office and the people you will be working with ? How you can enhance your opportunity of getting hired by the firm How should YOU prepare before attending MEET THE FIRMS? ? Decide what is most important to you in a career (is it the work environment? The variety of work you would be doing? Growth opportunities? Etc.) ? Know what you have to offer firms ? make a list of your strengths and be prepared to talk about them! ? Research participating firms. Find out what firms will be attending and research their website What should you wear? ? MEN ? suits (preferably a dark color), with a crisp, ironed shirt and a neatly knotted tie. Dark shoes, a matching belt and black socks are also preferred. ? WOMEN ? suits (preferably a dark color; either a pant suit OR a skirt suit), with a blouse or tailored button-down shirt. Wear closed-toed dark shoes and neutral or dark colored pantyhose. Behavior during MEET THE FIRMS: ? Go with a friend or meet there. It is often easier to mingle as a pair than as an individual ? Arrive on time. It can be intimidating to enter a room that is crowded and noisy ? Determine which firms and recruiters you would like to talk to. ? Make eye contact! The professionals are there to talk to you and are waiting for you to take the initiative! ? Offer a firm handshake! ? Place your nametag on your right side so when you shake with your right hand, your nametag is easily visible to whomever you are shaking hands with. ? Be prepared with a variety of questions you can ask recruiters; make sure to listen to their answers! ? End the conversation with an open door. Extend your hand in a friendly handshake, tell the individual you enjoyed speaking with them, and thank them for taking the time to speak to you. ? Get a business card from recruiters you spoke with. ? Do not forget to follow up! Within a few days, send a thank you to recruiters. Mention how nice it was to speak with them, refer to something that came up in your conversation to remind them about you, and express interest in a future meeting.
