The reason behind this is the fact that planning for this years BLAC started really late and we could not secure enough funding for this event. I therefore urge everyone to buy tickets as soon as possible before they sell out. Most of you might think that $30 is too much, but note that the night includes: Food, entertainment, wonderful and accomplished black people, an amazing key note speaker and a very crackin after party. Therefore $30 is kinda cheap considering all the things that will be coming with the night. Also note, that the money you pay for the ticket is not going into anyone's pocket. The only people benefiting from this black gala are yourselves, because all the money is going toward the food, hotel and scholarships. So please support your black community and buy you tickets because its for a good cause. Contact me for more information or tickets, and remember this event is open to everyone, even black people who dont come around ASU much or dont go to UCI. Note: the scholarship deadline for the BLAC CAMP is this friday, so please apply. -- Sincerely, Yetunde Fatunde, Outreach Coordinator for Afrikan Student Union, Director of Community Service for Minorities Association of Pre-health Students (M.A.P.S) yfatunde@uci.edu From ladeniyi at uci.edu Thu May 17 22:51:38 2007 From: ladeniyi at uci.edu (ladeniyi@uci.edu) Date: Thu May 17 21:51:44 2007 Subject: [Asu-list] Salsa Dancing Cancelled! There is an important piece of legislation that will be voted on tomorrow that will effect you as students. It is a resolution to give students a voice and to give space for discussion (with administration, etc) about Diversity and how to improve it specifically on our campus. If you haven't gotten your tickets yet, now is the time to do so. The night includes: food, entertainment, awards, a wonderful key note speaker (the first black medical student of UCI), and a tight after party. Plus, the Chancellor will be there and you can get to meet him. Tickets are $30 for students and $40 for other people. You can bring your friends, even those that don't come around ASU much, because this event is to celebrate ALL black students on this campus. We were successful in making our voices heard and have several signatures in support of overturning Proposition 209. Each umbrella organization within umbrella council (Afrikan Student Union, Alyansa ng mga Kababayan, American Indian Student Association, Asian Pacific Student Association, & Movemiento Estudiantil Chicana/o de Aztlan) had representatives present and it was especially nice to see members from ASU taking a stand for diversity here at UCI so thank you all! In addition, tomorrow is Black Wednesday! We will be on ring road in Admin. Spot #7 by the Admin. building. Just look out for us. Stop by between classes and mingle because we only have 2(two) Black Wednesdays left after this week for the rest of the year=( Hope to see you all there and have a good rest of the week. -- Sincerely, Sarahita Wyatt-Paige Afrikan Student Union, Director of Communications Associated Students of UCI, At Large Rep. swyattpa@uci.edu http://spirit.dos.uci.edu/asu From yfatunde at uci.edu Mon May 28 00:17:15 2007 From: yfatunde at uci.edu (yfatunde@uci.edu) Date: Sun May 27 23:17:18 2007 Subject: [Asu-list] Beach time!!!
