The ROOTS panel discussion will actually be taking place Monday of week 9. Tomorrow, however, we will be having a discussion on the up and coming Presidential elections/propositions. Voting and knowing the issues, as you all know, are important for the Black community so hope to see you all tomorrow as we take on these important issues. Also, on Tuesday, which is SUPER TUESDAY, BLOC (*Black Leaders on Campus*; which includes all of the umbrella orgs. of ASU) will have a booth on ring road near the Cross Cultural Center. After you vote on Tuesday during the primary elections, turn in your "I VOTED" sticker and you'll get something FREE. You'll have to stop by the booth to see what it is! =) Hope everyone is enjoying Super Bowl Sunday and be sure to come to the ASU meeting tomorrow to prepare for SUPER Tuesday! Since there were only a small and limited amount of spots not all of us will be able to attend this year. However, if you were selected you should have received an e-mail from someone in the Chancellor's office or from someone who works in Housing with a formal invitation. As stated before, spaces were very limited so if you were unable to attend this year it is possible that you will have an opportunity in the future. She will focus on the way that the Poor White Study in South Africa enabled US race relations experts to engage with imperial projects and British colonial culture. Professor Willoughby-Herard will also examine the predominant historiography of the Carnegie Poor White Study, which curiously de-links it from this context and thus achieves: 1) the neutralization of the racial and scientific racist content of the Poor White Study, and 2) the erasure of the relationships between this particular research by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and debates within Afrikaner Nationalism. Tiffany Willoughby-Herard is an Assistant Professor of Non-Western Political Theory and Comparative Political Thought in the Political Science Department at San Francisco State University. Her research focuses on race and gender in international affairs, comparative race politics, and Third World feminisms. She was a UC President's Postdoctoral Fellow in the Ethnic Studies Department at UC San Diego and is an award winning poet. Her most recent publication is an analysis of one of Frantz Fanon's case studies in Shout Out: Women of Color Respond to Violence edited by Maria Ochoa and Barbara Ige. She is deeply committed to political organizing around social and economic justice, community development, and artistic expression. This lecture is free and open to the public.
