There is a whole wide world of collegiate quizbowl. We
participate in some tournaments and formats and do not participate in
other formats. Our practices generally consist of mock matches,
in which two sides of our team compete against each other with
questions that are similar to the ones we hear in a tournament.
Wikipedia has a thorough
introduction to quizbowl that can be found here. The
Wikipedia page also has an extensive link of quizbowl
organizations. Similarly, the Maize Pages have a
great portal into the world of quizbowl (including a directory of the
teams participating in quizbowl competitions.
The vast majority of the tournaments we go to are either NAQT-style or
unique, invitational tournaments (e.g. Caltech's Technophobia
Tournament or USC's
Ghetto Warz Tournament). We play almost exclusively on the
"West-Coast" or
"California" circuit against teams such as Berkeley, Caltech,
the Claremont Colleges,
Stanford, UCLA, and USC ).
For more information about the wonderful world of quizbowl, ask about
it at a team practice. We will be happy to explain.
