Every year, the Department of Education hosts the Pio Pico Project with two teachers at Pio Pico Elementary School in Santa Ana. Each year, monetary donations are collected (taken at the front desk of the DOE), gifts are bought for the young boys and girls, and the Dept. hosts a "gift wrapping party."
On the day, the students get out for the Holidays, the gifts are delivered. The Dept. looks to the members of the Teachers of Tomorrow to join in the fun by helping with the wrapping of gifts and/or helping deliver the gifts.
Parents prepare a lunch for us and everyone gets to eat with the children. The children always have some sort of presentation prepared and usually make a really cute gift, too.
For some of these children, this is the only gift they receive. It's a wonderful event and hopefully you will be able to participate. This is also one of the few events in which we, as a club, get to directly work with those in the Department of Education.
