Final Post from Irene
Hi Everyone!
For those of you that weren't able to make it to final meeting, I just
wanted to say a final THANK YOU to everyone that participated in U SEE
EYES this year. The club has definitely come a long way and it really
would not be the same without the support and dedication of all its
members. I hope this year has been as much fun for you as it has been for
me. It has been my pleasure working as president for the club and I only
wish the best for all of you through your undergrad and applying to
optometry schools in the future. GOOD LUCK and have a GREAT summer!! :)

WINTER QUARTER GLASSES DRIVE to Lions Club International's Lions Recycle
for Sight Program
Lions help to conserve sight by providing usable eyeglasses to the
estimated 153 million children and adults in undeveloped nations with
uncorrected refractive errors (near-sightedness, far-sightedness and
astigmatism).
Donated eyeglasses can help millions to experience corrected vision for
the first time, enabling them to read, attend school, gain employment and
take care of their families. It is estimated that Lions clubs collect more
than 20 million glasses each year.
For more information about the program, please visit the Lions Club
official website at
http://www.lionsclubs.org/EN/content/vision_eyeglass_sight.shtml
**Donated eyeglasses will be collected at every meeting throughout Winter
Quarter.

Week 4: RJ De Rama from Orange County Makapo Aquatics Project
This week we are pleased to introduce our first community
service/involvment project of the year! RJ, one of our UCI alumni, runs
this non-profit organization helping blind and visually impaired people
get involved with paddling (outrigger canoes, kayaks, etc.) Since many of
these kids don't have supportive parents or role models in their lives,
they wanted to pair them up with dedicated and passionate people who have
a vested interest in helping others whose vision is less than perfect -
i.e. U SEE EYES members!
U SEE EYES will be working with RJ and his organization in many upcoming
community service events throughout the year. This week, RJ will be
introducing himself, sharing his story and why he has co-founded this
organization. MAKAPO has supporters who work with the Foundation Fighting
Blindness, the Braille Institute in Anaheim, and are affiliated with SCCO,
so this would be a GREAT way to become involved and meet people in the
visually impaired service community as well.
