About Us >

U See Eyes is an on-campus organization at the University of California, Irvine for students interested in pursuing a career in optometry. Throughout the school year we have weekly meetings which includes visits from representatives from optometry schools throughout the nation as well as local optometrists who generously donate their time to share their experiences with optometry with students. Kaplan also provides sponsorship for the club and information sessions for their OAT preparation course. We are also involved in fundraisers, volunteer work in the community and social events.

U See Eyes meets in HICF100K Spring quarter on Wednesdays from 5 to 6 pm.

U See Eyes is supported by Kaplan and we would like to thank them for their continued support.

Donated eyeglasses can help millions to experience corrected vision for the first time, enabling them to read, attend school, gain employment and take care of their families. It is estimated that Lions clubs collect more than 20 million glasses each year.

For more information about the program, please visit the Lions Club official website at
http://www.lionsclubs.org/EN/content/vision_eyeglass_sight.shtml

Week 4: RJ De Rama from Orange County Makapo Aquatics Project

This week we are pleased to introduce our first community service/involvment project of the year! RJ, one of our UCI alumni, runs this non-profit organization helping blind and visually impaired people get involved with paddling (outrigger canoes, kayaks, etc.) Since many of these kids don't have supportive parents or role models in their lives, they wanted to pair them up with dedicated and passionate people who have a vested interest in helping others whose vision is less than perfect - i.e. U SEE EYES members!

U SEE EYES will be working with RJ and his organization in many upcoming community service events throughout the year. This week, RJ will be introducing himself, sharing his story and why he has co-founded this organization. MAKAPO has supporters who work with the Foundation Fighting Blindness, the Braille Institute in Anaheim, and are affiliated with SCCO, so this would be a GREAT way to become involved and meet people in the visually impaired service community as well.

For more info, please check out their website at www.ocmap.org.
